Synching up iCal and Address book on 2 macs

We just got a macbook pro, and I want to be able to transfer calendar items from my G4 (which is the organizational center of out universe), as well as our address book. Is there a (free) way to do this with out .mac account?

My research has shown that the only way to do it is to plunk down the $$ for a .Mac account.

Anyone else?

I was wondering if I could do it using my ipod...

I spent a couple of weeks researching and testing and this is what I have found.
There are a number of products to do this spanning sync, isyncal and I use busysync which allows me to sync multiple macs with google calendars.
