Sword Prop

So we're shooting a cameo/comedy style short to 'Pirates of the Caribbean' one character uses something thats not a sword. But for 3 characters we need something that can look realitivly real. So its not as simple as going out to Toys R Us and buying a rubber or plastic sword for $6 a piece.

We want to create something thats as real looking as possible, though safe to use. Anybody ever worked with swords or have any ideas on what we could do?

A japanese film made custom swords like wood trimmed down and aluminum strips over top of them. works really good in fast combat. they took bokken sword and just thin them down and then put the metal on them..... having worked with swords alot good blocking yes but its better to stack percausion its better to be tapped by wood than dinged by steel.
