Switching to MAC from Premeire Pro....question

Ok, so now that Adobe proven they don't want to actually ever have their video editing program taken seriously I have decided to switch. Most likely I will be switching to Final Cut so will have to but the entire system since until now I have only worked on the PC.

I have to deliver lots of content in WMV so looks like I will have to continue encoding on the PC. Also I will be encoding from MOV files instead of AVI files.

My question is if making a WMV from a MOV file is just as high quality as makign a WMV from an AVI file.

Also, should I wait for the Macs with Intel chips?

Comments? Advice?

Why not just use Vegas if you already have a PC and will be encoding on the PC?

This from a die-hard Mac guy, too!

To answer your question about waiting for the Intels - depends how long you feel like waiting. The pro-level towers aren't out and won't be out until the summer at the earliest. Also, FCP won't run on the Intels right now, either.

I would say, if you can wait until the last half of the year, then get an Intel. If you can't, then get the fastest G5 you can afford.

Not yet. If you want a PC-based application that handles DVCPRO-HD, your choices are mainly Canopus Edius Broadcast or Avid Express Pro HD.

Avid does not look attractive to me. But I would have switched to MAC a long time ago if it were not for the "cult like" feeling I get when I walk into a MAC store and ask questions. They act like Windows does not exist when I ask them questions and also when I talk about things like WMV encoding they say "why would you ever want to create a WMV?" LOL

This is a lot like French people who know how to speak English yet act like they cannot even if you have a life and death emergency.

I have asked the question about encoding WMV from a MOV file instead of an AVI to lots of MAC users and they don't seem to know the answer.

From a Mac user dealing with PCs is a slippery slope. To help someone on a PC seems to be a major undertaking and requires learning much more about the internals of Windows than they need to know about the Mac system. As a result most Mac users are happily ignorant of Windows.
Since Mac users don't have to deal much with Windows media WMV files aren't high on the list. Windows makes a poor mac player so we tend to avoid wmv files when possible.
There's an app called flip4mac that should help. http://www.flip4mac.com/
Cleaner might be able to deal with it as well but I don't have either program.

I switched from P Pro to FCP last summer. It seems awkward but I still use the pc and P Pro to code to wmv. FCP seems to loose quality when coding to wmv. I have both on a network and copy to the pc put into P Pro.
