Switching to FCP and power mac purchase

I wil be purchasing a new Power Mac G5... either the 2.3GHz or the 2.7GHz..... Since this is already a sizeable investment, I'm trying to save money where I can. I'm trying to upgrade Ram, but not through Apple(they're too expensive). I'll probably purchase a Maxtor 300GB(Secondary).

Can anyone help with my ram purchase? I need about 2GB that is acceptible in a power mac G5.

I can't recommend Maxtor for video use. I've used a few and always get dropped frames with 'em.
Check 2-pop.com for different drives. I use IBM's but there's others that are fine. Just not Maxtor's.
They're great for other data and they're always cheap. I've seen a 128GB maxtor for 19.00 after rebates but I think there's a reason.

MarcM, The new Maxtors one touch 2... 300GB FW 800/USB2, 7200 RPM, 16 MB cache.... I'm surprised.. these specs match up to the specs of the comparible drives out there..... though haven't used Maxtor drives for any major capturing, just 10 sec to 2 min of capture time and it didn't seem to bad.
