Switching from Timecode to Counter clock

I have to learn a new NON linear editing system at work made by Grass Valley and one thing I learned how to do is switch from Timecode to Control in the Preview window before I bring a clip down to the timeline. Say I wanted to reset the counter to zero and time out a clip.

Can this be done in FCP? I usually do it the old fashioned way (my old fashioned way) where I would time out certain clips with a stopwatch! LOL! Hey it works!!
 
In the upper left of the Viewer and the Canvas is a duration window. By default it shows the duration of the currently loaded clip/sequence but if you add in/out points it will show you the duration between the "in" and the "out". I know that's not exactly what you asked for, but hopefully it works for you.
