Switching from NewTek to Vegas

I'm seriously considering a switch from NewTek's SpeedEdit to Vegas 9.0. (I started with the Video Toaster in 1991 and I just stuck with Newtek.)

Does anyone have any knowledge about both to compare them in the real world? I've read their specs of course, but that's a far cry from using them!

Any input would be appreciated! (I'll be capturing on an HMC150.)

Ill I can say is that I use the 150 and Vegas 9 64bit. It can be tough at times...like in 60p mode. You will have to trancode to edit that footage. Just tried 1080 30p...and it was very jumpy and studdery. Thats with a i7 machine.

Ouch! I didn't expect that.

I ordered an i7 Extreme Quad-core 3.0GHz with 6GB RAM and Sony Vegas 9 to go with it.

You're saying this isn't fast enough? Is it possible it's a 64-bit issue?

Nothing in the general consumer realm can edit AVCHD natively once you really start doing work. I have a pretty powerful machine and I can get close... The i7 will be good, but not quite there.
