Switching Computers in Post

I'm editing an 100 minute feature-length film (About 250GB of 24PA video) with Vegas 6.0. I store all my native video on a 300GB Maxtor external harddrive and edit real-time via it's firewire interface. My only problem is, I'm ready to throw my computer (Specs: P4 3.0Ghz, 2GB RAM) off a cliff. lol, It has seen better days (Shouldn't have bought from a shifty liquidator) That said - I've tried plugging my harddrive (Which includes all video and veg files) into a separate computer (Also running Vegas 6.0) And while I can open the veg files, I only get the audio and not the video. I've tried specifying new file locations and everything, and no luck! Am I missing something here? I apologize if this question sounds ridiculous. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

There shouldn't be a problem, unless your footage is DIVX or something, and you don't have proper codec(s) installed on the separate computer.

That could be the issue right there. Thanks David!

* I'm going into film school, Macs and FCP seem to be all the rage and I still to this day shake my head. Why doesn't Vegas get the credit it deserves? Thats a whole different topic of discussion entirely, I'll stop ranting. lol

I tried matching up the codecs on the separate machine, and still no luck..

I can still edit within my separate 20 minute intervals, but when I load all my veg files into the same timeline - my computer locks up. I suppose what I could do is finish each interval, render them AVI uncompressed, and transfer them to the other computer that way.

If only it were as easy as I had hoped. Vegas still kicks ass though, regardless of how outdated my computer is, lol

If the full project works on your first computer, there's no reason why it shouldn't on your second computer. This isn't a Vegas problem.

There may some Windows configuration issues at play here.
