Sweet, portable cookies for light control!

I was looking for cookies for an upcoming shoot and found these.
http://lightbreak.com/order.php

They are portable (think Road Rags kit) and are very durable. Went to the guys house today (Emmy winning DP) who designed them, and he gave me a demo. They really are a fine product and Jim is a great guy.

For $119.00 you get 4 x 18"x24" patterns (as opposed to one wooden cookie for $125+ from B and H.)

Check em' out!

I've seen these before but 119 dollars for cookies? Yeeeeesh.

Poke holes in black wrap or go outside and pull a branch off of a tree. The best part is it will end up costing you close to nothing.

A knife and foam board are my cookies of choice...and they cost about $5.

Can't say portability is worth another $100+.

I CAN say portability is worth $100....they fit into my Arri kit and I don't have to carry them onto a plane, they fit nicely wherever I like. Imagine walking onto a place or checking big wooden/foam core cookies....now imagine whirled peas. :) Also, imagine continuing to cut those foam core boards over and over because of wear (I just made one and already it is suffering.) What is time and portability worth? I'm just sayin'....

Cinefoil rules. Smaller and lighter than these and a heck of a lot cheaper. Really free for most of us since we already have a roll of Cinefoil around.

Nothing wrong with these but do you need to spend $119.00 for something you can make essentially for free? For some people, its worth it. For others who are broke, not so much. But there is that time thing, I agree, time is money and for some people, taking scissors to Cinefoil might be too time consuming.

Hey Guy! Nice to see you here and I have always appreciated your tutorials! The Gobos that you linked rock! Yes, so I spent a wad on the gels, but they did GREAT onset. I was looking for a good set or gobos also and viola! ...there you were! Thanks for that link, and for your positive and useful input!

And yes, PureD, great input .....I ALWAYS espouse the greatness of Cinefoil. One isn't a true indie unless they use it ! ;)

I'm usually a foil guy myself - even basic aluminum foil works OK in a pinch. But the small LightBreak size of 4 @ $60 or even a couple at $18 ea. makes sense for someone always on the go with a few Arris. Thanks for the reminder, I had forgotten the name of the company.
