Swamp Monster Costumes q&a

Hey everyone, let's say I wanted to create a monster suit for a cheap-ass indie. What would be some key qualities I should look for?

-I've never worked with costumes or have any idea how much they cost
-I've already finished designing it
-It's nothing too extravagant, it's similar to the swamp monster costumes circa de 50's and 60's cinema
-minimal wear and tear, there's no running in it or anything like that

The location for the film is North Florida, I was thinking there might be some specialists(I would hope) in Orlando, who could help.

Thanks guys, and if I'm posting in the wrong section let me know!

You might be able to start with a commercial ghillie suit and work it into something you like.

Those are pretty slick, definitely something to look at. What about costumes or something similar to this

Where would be the best place to find professionals in this department? Orlando, LA? I'm totally clueless on how these creature costumes get made and how much they cost.

Check out the Supplemental materials on the JACK BROOKS MONSTER SLAYER dvd. If that's what you want to make and that's how you wnat it to look, that would be a good start. Also check out Tom Savini's makeup books. I think they're out of print but worth tracking down.
