When editing in Vegas, if I want to eventually mix the audio for 5.1 surround sound, when I open a new project, can I do all my video editing with just stereo to get the cuts right, then change over from stereo to 5.1 for mixing the audio or do I have to have the 5.1 chosen as my audio choice from the beginning? I saw that you can do an automatic mixdown from 5.1 to stereo, but I didn't know if you could go to 5.1 from stereo once the project is started (I know you can't do it automatically, but would you be able to convert the stereo tracks into 5.1 tracks and then mix?). Has anyone done the auto mixdown from 5.1 to stereo? If so, how were the results? I read somewhere that the stereo wouldn't pick up the LFE track -- is this true?
Anyway, just wondering. I'm about to start on a project and I didn't know if I needed to start in 5.1 or if I could change over to 5.1 later for mixing.
