Surround problem

USLatin

Panamaniac
I have my track keyframes displayed on my audio track and I create points on the "surround position" line... then I change each one with the surround panner which I have set to Film on the different pan types...

What I've been trying to do is double click a given point I've created and change the position of the orange diamond in the panner, but it seems whatever I change it to becomes the position of all of my points I have created on the Surround Position line on my track...

:(

hey David... can I ask you a Sound Forge question?

I am using it to work on my sound clips easily by simply right clicking them on my Vegas timeline and selecting the option to open in Sound Forge... but when I try to work on the sound of a clip that is attached to video I ger an unknown error when trying to save it...

I would love to learn how to be able to do it that way because it seems there is a lot more that Sound Forge has to offer for video editing that way...

now I am appliying a sound FX within vegas because then it is saved as a separate wave and I then get to open it without the video and I am able to save like that

Don't know. I don't use SF. But it looks to me like a standard error message when you try to save changes to a file that's in use in another program.

I tried the standard stuff though.. even closed Vegas all together when it didn't work... took it a step further and even closed the explorer windows I had open lol...

anyways... I would love it if someone with Sound Forge commented on how to use the time code stuff and how to solve my problem...

BTW David... thank you very much for all the time you devote to the Vegas section... you and many of the other guys are helping me save several tenths of thousands on tuition... there will always be a cold beer waiting for you at our home :)

Try right clicking you sound file, and instead of sending "it", send as a copy. It's one of the options. That may work. You also may have to right click on the audio and go to Group>Release From (or something similar) and that may help. Or, open the video clip in Sound Forge itself.

I usually go the route of "Send Copy to Sound Forge", just because I am anal and like to have the original audio intact, and when alterations are made and saved, Vegas should put the copy in the original's place.

And what are you doing that you need Sound Forge for? With them both installed, Vegas can use all of Sound Forge's filters in program. Unless you are doing some serious, serious audio editing, Vegas will be able to handle what you need.

Give it a shot. insert an effect on your audio track, and with Sound Forge 8 installed, you can use all the Flanges, Pitch Shifts, Eq's, Reverbs, Delays, ect right inside Vegas.

And what are you wanting about timecodes?

EDIT: Just gave it a try. I opened Vegas, imported a video file, right clicked on the audio, and sent it to sound forge. the entire video clip was sent, not the audio only. I then ungrouped the video and audio, right clicked and sent to sound forge and again the video clip itself was opened. Then I right clicked and did a "Send copy to Sound Forge". Sure enough, only the audio appeared, and when I changed it, Vegas updated the changed audio. Worked like a charm.

Yea, when you first said it it made sense that sending a copy would do it... I am using SF just cause I am likng it... haven't used the trimmer in Vegas much but I am sure it would do what I like SF for which is tha big visualization of the waves... However before you put it that way I was going to SF just to be safe in case Vegas didn't have the same algorithms but it seems from your post that the audio FX in Vegas that I have available are from SF...

Still kicking around with all this stuff and trying to find the best work-flow... I did get a bit used to it now and I got memory to spare so I might finish this project like this before I try to figure out the Vegas audio interface...

So you use the trimmer correct? So you are saying that it is straight forward, simple, and just as powerful as SF? I am very interested in getting your opinion Matt
