I may look for a solutuion to a newbie problem while editing, but I generally use another computer and let mine render away! Infact I generally use another computer for all my surfing.

Sorry Zach, a poorly phrased question. What I meant was, do you use one computer for editing and surfing? Or do you have a dedicated editing machine--a temple if you will for the sole purpose of editing.
 
oops. i voted, then read the revised wording of the question. i surf while cutting, but that's on my laptop which sits to my right just below the client monitor.
 
I often surf while rendering test segments, but usually not during full renders (Which usually happen over night when I'm not here anyway).
 
I used to have two separate partitions, for surfing and editing, but I have them both on the same computer and partition. I don't run firewalls or anti virus software so my background processes aren't really a factor.
 
I do it quite often and have never really had a problem. I don't do anything while capturing, though.
 
At home I do both on my NLE, although most of surfing at home is on my non-NLE laptop. At work I have been known to surf while I render little bits, but only to dvxuser! I do have a seperate machine dedicated to email and internet and all the other crap they make me do, but its too far away sometimes...
 
I haven't needed it yet but I created a different profile which loads absolutely nothing and I was just thinking today about using the Msconfig to boot 100% clean to see if that would sit well with Vegas. However I usually surf, unless I am into it or have to hurry in which case I only close all I can and continue.
 
The only time I do nothing on the machine is during capture.
Any other time and I'm surfing.
