ok, yes i saw it and enjoyed it, but Metallica some kind of monster is superior in every way i can concieve, and after bringing it up with friends, everyone agrees.
to each their own but why for the love of god did it not get a nod when Supersize me did? I just can't understand. I'm going to attribute it to the fact that im a musician (although not a big fan of metallica) and maybe music doesnt have the appeal of mcdonalds, but i'm going to hope not.
Please, everone should see both these movies, as they are both great docs and both dv, but i have yet to hear of anyone picking SSM over M:SKOM. Even my grandmother enjoyed it lol
Agreed, Supersize me was a GOOD and interesting documentary. But worthy of an Academy Award Nomination for BEST Documentary. You've got to be *F'in* kidding me. Farhrenheit 9/11 didn't get nominated but THIS did? WTF?
Politics I guess. But either way I guess they must have REALLY been scraping the bottom of the barrel for Documentarys this year!! ~reservoir~
..im not certain by any means, but ive heard that farenheit 9/11 was submitted (by the filmmaker who we should steer clear of talking about) as a "dramatic film" and not a documentary. and therfore would be inelegible for a documentary nomination.
anyway .. probably a bad direction to take the thread concerning that particular film. you should probably look into any truth behind what i heard separate of the forum. nothing good ever comes from talking about tha particular filmmaker or his very political films here and discussions on him are taboo here for good reason.
yeah, "he-whos-name-I-shall-not-speak" submitted it for best picture, not best documentary. I liked it but even i know thats the stupidous move i've ever heard of. What it wasn't nominated? ah big surprise.
Anyway, if anyone doesn't think there were any good docs this year, again, please go rent Some kind of monster, in this slow year I think its one of the best movies released. no need to enjoy the music to appreciate this film.
lol sry to hijack ur topic. yeah like i said i enjoyed it too. Just imagine you were that guy. Take your dvx out and make a little documentary, and it gets picked up, released theatrically and then nominated for an Acadamy Award... good times eh?
sry elvis i just get weird about that fact that i havnt met anyone whose seen Some kind of monster. after they see it they love it, but i'm trying to get the word out! And the fact that SSM was nominated while SKOM wasnt bugs me
I agree about Some King Of Monster being a better doco. Supersize Me was okay, but really what was the point of what he did and what was really proven. Eating pizza hut for a month would be just as bad.
...and just to set the record straight. Farenheit 9/11 was political propaganda at its finest. It made that fat bastard even more rich!! Great!! But we all have to admit he sure as hell knows how to play the American Audience like an accordian. Almost as good as *Bush's Team* and their *War on Terrorism*!! So anyway...Supersize Me was shot on the DVX100? I did not know that!! ~reservoir~
Whoa, reservior, not sure if your new here, but in case you didnt know, voicing any opinion about Michael Moore or his last film especially, is an unwritten no no, it never leads to anything contructive.
I wouldn't have brought it up in the first place, but once you did you can tell how lightly we stepped aound it. Not to bash on you, just letting you on on our little self imposed rule.
and no SSM was not on DVX, i just used that as an illustration since WE use dvx's.
Politics aside, Michael Moore would not submit 9/11 for consideration in the documentary category. He was hoping to have it considered for best picture.
I'm currently reading "This Monster Lives" Which is a book by one of the filmmakers of "Some Kind Of Monster" about the process of making the film. It's insightful. A great companion to the film.
I thought Supersize Me was pretty good. Me and a couple friends actually made some deep fried Reese's and Snickers. They were awesome. If you've got a deep fryer, do it. You won't regret it.
the goverment doesnt let media go into a frenzy ever
you might think there is no agenda behind some things you see in mainstream but that just means your stupid
so any rich wealthy people here? that would let my imagination run wild and back me up, you will reap fame fortune and sales(my work will be blockbuster material)
1) F 9/11 - so much propaganda I haven't seen anywhere. I mean this guy is just funny + he makes many logical mistakes which makes his film funny. Anyway I enjoyed it in this "not serious" kind of way...
2) SSM: Are you kidding me?? I mean one guy starts eating MacDonald and suddenly after one month he his sick? I mean throw a fat guy on a christmas tree and you've got christmas! If I ate cabbages for a month I would be/feel sick! You just don't get enough other food! I eat MD once in a while (mostly McDrive when I'm on the road) and I never feel sick... The goal is not to be extremly radical...
//btw. making a statment with an experiment on yourself. I'm glad that he picked food not bungee jumping...

//do not take this as a sign of protest. I just don't like documentaries made just to destroy without showing properly pluses and minuses. Moore and Spurlock showed their vision and you have to use a huge filter to see the actual truth there.
