Superman/Batman team-up?

It's still early in the day, and WB has yet to announce this, but the rumor's spreading like wildfire, which usually means there's some kind of truth behind it. Hell, at this point, if WB announces anything but a Superman/Batman film, I think they'll have a fanboy mutiny on their hands. Supposedly, this will come in place of a sequel to MOS.

Not going to lie, though... I think I'd much rather DC/WB just played it Marvel style and did a proper build-up before just throwing all their eggs in the basket. Stand-alone character films would feel like less of "events" if they all come after a team-up or Justice League movie. Not that I wouldn't go, it would just be kind of the opposite of the anticipation that built with each new Marvel movie pre-Avengers. Anyone else feel this way?

Snyder confirmed Superman/Batman team-up film. From Comic-Con:

I always thought the build up that Marvel did with the Avengers was one of the best marketing ideas that's been done. That showed a huge level of respect for the comic book world, and it allowed the audience to follow character development not only through one film but several. A team isn't assembled without learning about each individual and seeing their strengths and weaknesses, unless you count the Backstreet Boys, the Monkees, or N'SYNC.

I've read that some people feel some of the members of the Justice League are too independent to be shown as a team in one film, especially Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, Aquaman, & the Green Lantern. Marvel doesn't seem to have this issue.

Superman/Batman could be amazing, though. They are polar opposites, one is a man without powers and the other is an alien with extraordinary powers. So how would their two worlds mesh?

Yeah, it was announced today here at comic con.

Lots of directions to go, lots of comic arcs to choose from.

I'm excited to see the way it shakes out

I for one am not excited by this idea at all.

First, i'm just tired of comic book movies for a while. Seriously, there have been enough. And worst, nobody is saying anything interesting with them. The genre just feels tired at this point.

Secondly, why in the world are they making another Batman film so soon after The Dark Knight trilogy?? Bale has already said he would not come back as Batman, so we are now going to get a replacement actor to the greatest comic book films of all time (despite TDKR being very average), and not even 5 years later. Ridiculous.

And finally, I don't want the absurdity of Superman infecting my favorite superhero. Batman is fantastic because he's relatable, he's vulnerable, and with enough money and balls we could all be him to an extent. But superman can do anything unless you introduce a god-like villain, which would make Batman next to useless. I just don't get how the dynamic can work out well.

It's a brain-and-brawns kind of thing. The "Man of Steel" and the world's greatest detective. Snyder's all but pissed his pants over Lex Luthor being involved in his new Superman world, so it's not hard to presume he'll be the villain (and Luthor's always been my favorite JL villain), though they might try to save him for the hopeful JLA film in 2017. And it doesn't take a god-character to bring Clark to his knees, it takes one of two things: kryptonite, or Lois Lane in danger. I think the second is the way to go for a Batman/Superman film; Superman has traditionally been a smash-em-bash-em type, so if someone (Luthor) took Lois hostage, he could feel helpless against it until Batman helps him devise a plan and then massive destruction follows. Just thinking out loud here.

Not saying Superman is usually portrayed as dumb, or that he doesn't figure things out on his own, but I grew up watching the Justice League animated series, and Batman was usually the one who figured s--t out while Supes was beating the snot out of somebody.

Who's playing Batman and will the film follow MOS or TDK canon?

Will Superman exist in Batmans world or Batman exist in Supermans?

Or will it be a new universe altogether?

I'd love to be a fly on the wall for those meetings...

According to Snyder, the following line from Miller's The Dark Knight Returns (which also largely inspired Nolan's trilogy) will sort of set the tone for the film, but Snyder said the film will not be based on the graphic novel.

“I want you to remember, Clark, in all the years to come, in all your most private moments, I want you to remember my hand at your throat. I want you to remember the one man who beat you.”

Hopefully, we'll get a little more news over the next few months.

man, some of you guys should really read some of these comics before you trash this.

Batman and Superman have some wonderful stories together, some where each of them best each other.

This in an inevitablility.

Bale will not be batman, frankly, I'm glad.

He was a wonderful wonderful bruce wayne and a very deep voiced batman.

He's had his three, time to move on.

We left him in a cafe in Europe with Anne Hathaway, leave that man alone.

I don't know about this. I like chocolate ice cream. And I like steak. But I'm not sure I want to eat them both at the same time.
