How would you achieve a superfast running a la "smallville" ...
any suggestions?
thanks!

shoot with a slow shutter to speed to get a lot of motion blur (12 fps ish works well) and speed up in post. works for me

I try to imagine it.... so if you shoot in a blue-box, the actor will have a lot motion blur, and you can set a background with normal shutter speed.

I added some twixtor motion blurr and it came out beautiful!
thanks for the advice guys and gals

Using Cycore's Wide Time effect will create a nice echo, and it also had geometric motion blur, which when used with the wide time it will give you a nice sped up look with some trails.

Havent tried for tracking or panning shots yet, basically just shot the scene of me running out of frame then back in (of course selling the effect a little myself) took the clip into after effects then pulled out a few frames, the ones that were left behind got their own mask and some heavy motion blur. If you frame by frame the sample clip it will become very obvious and should show what the frames look like with the motion blur applied. Also adding in some sound effects helps to sell the effects as well!

That looks really good sparareel...
i would be grateful if you share the secrets......!
cheers

Do you mean you took a single frame, masked it and added mb. if you masked it wouldnt the next frame overlap the previous one. In your movie, i see no overlaping
What did the mask serve for?
cheers

Kick butt Sparereel. I really like the effect you got. I did something like this in Avid Nitris DS for a piece about people donating to the Hurricane Katrina fund, but we masked out a guy standing in front of the fishtank with the donations as people walked into a store and donated. It looked like he was still in standard motion and the people would blast in and we'd slow motion it when they donated to the cause.

It looked similar, but that was on a $200K editing suite. Top notch work here in just AEX.

You will need to shoot some subject free background at at least the lengh of the clip and lay it underneath all of the other clips in the timeline, then take the single frames and mask out the background (leave just the subject) and apply the motion blur. This will blurr out the subject and the background layer will be seen underneath.
