i personally own a bauer 709XL with slow shutter. got it in mint condition with a full profi set off fleabay form a respect seller (neovaron).

depends on what you want to spend.. you get what you pay for.

the above link has some excellent choises in super 8mm. canons, nikos are some other good choices.

kodak still makes super 8 film (silent) in different flavors, http://www.kodak.com/US/en/motion/super8/index.jhtml?id=0.1.4.4.10&lc=en . you can get ektachrome sound film form fleabay still but the norm now is to use an outboard device (md, dat, etc) and sync up sound in post. i use a MD deck to record my audio..

il be more than happy to help you in a decision...

You can go to this place. They cut down the latest 35mm stocks to use in super 8 cameras.

They're a little pricey on some things. They're a all in house, purchasing the stock, lab, transfer to video. So if you want to go to one place, their it.

Also Yale Labs I think in LA, may now be Burbank, has some deals also. If Keith is still there talk to him.

Now if you want to use it to learn to shoot 35mm film stocks to become a film dp then I say yes. But I honestly think you'll learn more by getting a DVX. You'll be able to do more, money wise to learn the craft.

I've got some sweet Beaulieus (4008 ZMII & 5008S) that I'm thinking about selling on eBay later this month. I had eBay Super 8 fever last Summer... (ask Barry Green)... and have maybe one or two or three that I might not be needing. ;)

Cheapest way of getting one is Ebay look for a Nizo 801 or Bauer 512 or Leicina special but log on to Ebay.de the German version of Ebay. They can't give the things away over there. Use Altavista Babelfish to translate the page. You can get them for as little as a few dollars, and if doesn't work you haven't spent a fortune. But in my experience I have been sold a dud yet.
