Super 8 Converting

Does anyone know a cheap (but good) S8 film converting company. I have 6 400' rolls of S8 film and I would like to get it converted for <$300. Does anyone know a internet store, or a place within 50 miles on Thousand Oaks, CA I could get this done?

I've been looking around and found an internet film transfer rate (for all the film) at $218.95. This includes shipping, color correction, transfer to DVD, and cleaing/splicing. The store is called HomeMovieDepot, has anyone had any experience with them?

Is anything on your super 8 film critical? Or is it just some home movie stuff? If it's some critical stuff then I suggest going with a company like Flying Spot, if not then maybe HomeMovieDepot is ok.

It just some old footage from a family member that i will be editing and making DVD's for. What i really like is that this company will send you the footage on a 40 gig pocket hard drive.
 
This really does depend on the quality you want to get. Some places just project on a piece of cardboard and record the image at 20fps with a 1ccd camera. Some up this a bit with a condenser lens and a 3ccd camera. I used to run a transfer business that did it with a frame accurate system. So just remember, you get what you pay for.

Personally, if you are only willing to pay under $300 for 2,400ft of film, then you might as well do it yourself. I doubt you'll be happy with someone elses results. It will either not be at the right speed, have the light pulsating or too bright in the middle, lots of dirt on the film, cropped to lose much of your film on the sides, you get the idea. Also does this flim have sound on it? If so, you'll have even more problems.

I think Homemoviedepot has like a 30day turnaround. He uses a transfer box to do it from what I read on a forum he posts on.

One of our engineers pointed me to this thread, I am the president of Home Movie Depot. We have around 40 employees and specialize in small gauge film digitization. Our telecine machines do not use mirrors, condensor lens or any wall. The setup consists of two computers. The microprocessor built into the transfer machine synchs the film frame rate to the video signal and adjusts the intensity of the bulb used for projection. The other controls the mechanics of the transfer machine and captures the video signal. The standard transfer uses a 3 CCD broadcast camera and the HD system uses a 3CCD HD camera. What I like about both is we threw out the projector lens and the camera lens and use a single high quality lens. We flip the image in software rather than using a mirror. You can get a better transfer if you are willing to pay 10 times more, search for a company offering rank cintel with super 8 gate.
