I'm looking for info on what type of filter I should be using for a shoot taking place during the day on a sunny beach.
The built in ND is a little off at times and was wondering what a solution to get a better image?

I'm used to shooting on the fly with just the basic HVX but i'm thinking some kind of filter might really help.

Thanks in advance to any info

Without a doubt use a polarizer, especially if you are fortunate to get clouds, ii will also bring out the details in the waves, etc. If you are afraid that your ND won't cut it then get an external ND filter.
You don't want it washed out, and you can rotate the polarizer to help where ever your angle needs it. A Soft FX also is nice if it is dreamy or pretty girl , etc..

Cheers

I'd really recommend something to bounce light into the shadows, if you are doing 'close up' on people.

If people are close up, softening the shadows would help. Screen, finding shade, such as it may be, would help also on the 'squint' most people do in bright sun.

If this is to take the reflection off the water, polar filters will mitigate that, along with just plain old ND filters.

Depending on the scenery I always like using a quarter cto filter on beach shots. Only if the sand is white or very light yellow. This makes everything pop a little bit more.

Exactly. Also, grad sunset or grad orange might be nice kit. But I like to shoot mostly clean, so those would more likely than not stay in the box.

Agreed. I like to do almost everything in camera, but it's my guilty pleasure to ND grad the sky and add the color tint grad effect in post. :)
