Sundance Film Festival

It's a great question, but unanswerable. I got a short film of mine into a local festival, and it's certainly not technically perfect. But the judges told me my film had a story, and an interesting one, and my message got through despite whatever the flaws.

Only you can decide if you have a great story and tell it well. It's good to check out other stuff that got in, you may find a particular style or subject matter that seems to do well.

Other than that, all you can do is tell the stories you really believe need to be told.

Hi, Danny, here's the link to deadlines and instructions for submitting your film to Sundance: http://festival.sundance.org/2006/utilities/submissions.aspx

You are too late for the 2006 festival, which is coming up in January -- you'll have to try for 2007.

But, there are loads of other film festivals aside from Sundance... I just did a search for "film festivals" (in quotes) on yahoo, and found a ton of fewtivals as well as some festival news sites, including: http://www.filmfestivals.com (this one has a decidedly international slant) and http://www.filmfestivaltoday.com, which has a section featuring "call for entries" at http://www.filmfestivaltoday.com/calls.asp. So, just get it out there to as many fests as you can!

"physical quality of the movie might not be the greatest"...

Not a good sign, the competition at Sundance is "massive" to say the least.

Also, the Late Submissions Deadline is now over, and they're are no longer accepting applications for the 2006 Sundance Film Festival.

The requirements are simple, features and documentaries, $35, shorts $25. Deadlines, late August/September.

No, it doesn't. A well known film around here, that was shot on the DVX100a, won something ... though I can't recall the award, or the film's title ... but it WAS Sundance.

Danny,

just make the best film you can and submit it. theres no secret to getting into a festival sundance or otherwise, other than making some quality art w/good story, acting, lighting, sound, etc. basically everything that makes a movie stand out from the pack. if you make an amazing movie with a GL2 it shouldnt matter at our level.

if you dont have luck with this movie, work harder next time and correct your mistakes and try again. practice, pratice, practice and pick people's brains on sites like this one! my first movie made two tiny film festivals, my 2nd has made six fests. i have gotten enough feedback and asked enough questions that i know what i need to work on for movie #3 and the hope is the end product will continue to improve until im at a level to make something like a sundance.

keep working at it and best of luck to you! were all working at it, there's no secret other than the skill to tell a good story and convey it "professionally"...
