Sun Shade for DVX

I shot outside last week for a couple of hours and my camera was exposed to the Southern California sun on a 95 degree day (on the end of a jib arm). The camera body itself was almost too hot to touch. While the heat didn't seem to cause any problems, I'm wondering if there is a small sun shade (mini umbrella?) that clips directly to the camera that I can use next time (should clip to the camera rather than the tripod or jib arm in case I want to shoot handheld.)

Hi - I'm shooting down here in HOT Florida, and had exactly the same question! I've seen small umbrellas that clip on to the back of beach chairs, but I think those might be too heavy to attach to the camera...

Has anyone seen a mini-umbrella that would be suitable for the DVX?

That's, quite possibly, the classiest piece of equipment a guy could have. Count me in. But not without the eye patch!

LOL oh brother...Jarred I thought you had some high-tech thing that nobody's heard of...

When in fact we ALL have one of those

You can also try a mylar space blanket, which is what you see on professional sets (along with umbrellas, of course). Camera places will have expensive ones, but any place that sells NASA products, like the Smithsonian or the NASA gift shop (maybe their web site?) will also have a gold mylar "blanket" for about 6 bucks. Drape it over the camera and secure with clothes pins.

..for that matter , you could just go to a craft store, or gift shop, and buy a roll of silver or gold wrapping paper. I use it for reflectors cause it works awsome and is super cheap, but i guess its got a second use now. :)

..and the pirate umbrella.. NO WAY JARRED!! ..dont you know that if your going to put an umbrella on your cam ..(or head) it HAS to be one like this:

..that is SOOOOOO much cooler than a pirate. it shows your ...uh.. diversity.. and stuff. :P

Re: Sun Shade for DVX

..well, obviously it is.   ..everyone knows how i like to wear stuff like that, and try to sell it on e-bay. :)

..and im wearing my favovite blue and green bathrobe outside .. ahhh yes.. such luxury!

Re: Sun Shade for DVX

Why not go to Lowes and buy some of the foil/bubble insulation. 16" x 25' = $16.85. Cut what you need. Very light weight and stops the heat immediatly!

"Reflectix® is a 5/16" thick, seven layer, reflective insulation
Two outer layers of aluminum foil reflect 97% of radiant heat. Each layer of foil is bonded to a tough layer of polyethylene for strength.
Two inner layers of insulating bubble pack resist conductive heat flow while a center layer of polyethylene gives Reflectix® high reliability and strength.
Reflectix® reflects the sun's rays in the hot summer months. It also retains interior heat and helps to eliminate potentially damaging ice dams during the winter months. "

I found this attachment for a golf unbrella that has a clamp on one end and a double ball design that lets you get it at any angle. I've clamped it on jibs, tripods, even the top handle of a large camera...
