Sun Rays Through Window

I am doing a shoot next week and I will be filming in a bedroom during the early morning. I need to be able to see the rays of sun coming through the blinds into the room. The room I am shooting in is a 3rd story room so lighting the window from the outside is impossible. The window does look to the east so if I film in the morning I get light coming through but no rays. Any ideas on how I can achieve what I am looking for? I have a 3 piece Arri light kit. I believe it is two 350's and a 650.

Some people have told me to look into fog machines but Im not sure.

What you actually need is a hazer machine because unlike a fog machine, it will do an even layer of haze. Now, you can use a fog machine and get the same effect, but it will be much harder to control. If you have a few bucks you might look into this: http://www.filmtools.com/diffusionincan.html I haven't used it yet, but I hope to buy a can the next time I order some stuff from filmtools.

diffusion in a can is wonderful stuff. a bit more pricey than a hazer but you can get a few small rooms filled up with one can.

the other trick is hard light pumping through that window. depending on the time of day, the 650 may not even be enough, mind you in most films you've got 5k or more blasting through a window. I've patterned a wall with a 1k fairly easily but as for a hard beam, you may need more than one light or a larger instrument.

Well as Ive stated before I cant even light the outside of the window. It is a 3rd story room without a balcony so the outside is inaccessible. I ahve placed an order for two of those "cans of fog". Ill let you guys know how they work when I get them. Im amazed. There really seems to be a product for everything!

If you can somehow get someone up there on a ladder with a large mirror or silver reflector I would try to redirect the sun light through the window. You can try to spot your three lights and reflect them into the window, but battling the sun is a very long shot! What you really need is an HMI, but you probably already knew that.

Amber-gel the window as needed and smoke a doob in there before ya shoot.
The haze will help with the rays and the buzz will give ya the creativity to add some rays in post.

There isnt any way to light the window or even gel it. Its a 3rd story room and then the apt complex is on the hill so there really isnt any way.
