Summer's Over: Favorite Flicks??

So by all accounts this was the lamest summer for movies in recent memory. But, of course we all checked out at least some of the films. What were your favorites?

My top picks are as follows:

1) War of the Worlds - had that "movie feeling" happen which just doesn't happen much anymore.
2) The Devils Rejects - maybe it's because the summer lacked good films, but this one was interesting, fun and unique. By far the best cinematography out of any film I saw this summer and the best music.
3) Batman Begins - could be considered a 2A. Saw it 3 times in the theatre, to me Nolan cannot do wrong. Hope it's the rebirth of a franchise in which the films get better as they go along.

Honorable mentions: Mr.&Mrs. Smith; Unleashed.

Biggest Dissapointment: Land of the Dead. If you are going to make a serious zombie movie, Dawn of the Dead 2004 has to be the bar, you need to be better than that movie or not go to theatres.(imho)

Almost forgot I saw them(which isn't a good sign): Star Wars ; Kingdom of Heaven.

Worst: Fantastic Four. (maybe I should have read reviews... cuz if i had known it was a little kids movie i would have brought my nieces and maybe it wouldn't be my worst film). The bridge sequence may be one of most pathetic moments in cinema history.

Beyond being the worst: XXX State of the Union. Rent it and find out. Maybe the end train sequence might look a little more realistic on a small screen.

(side note: as new movies seem to be getting weaker, I've been renting older more obscure movies in hopes of finding decent stuff to watch. Checked out a couple Lars Von Trier movies and was thoroughly impressed: Dogville & Dancer in the Dark - highly recommend them.)

Nice thread Stabb

1. The Devil's Reject's

This film got me jacked up and exicted and delivered the good's. One of the ballsiest film's in years.

and

2. War of the Worlds

I don't too much about the Katie Holmes/Tom Cruise phenomenon (some sources say he is covering up being gay) but WOW kicked ass; pure popcorn fun and from the master no-less. Alot of people wanted to rip it apart and disect it but this film more than delivers.

Best from Summer:
Batman Begins
Wedding Crashers
Mr and Mrs Smith
40-Year Old Virgin
War of the Worlds

Worst from Summer:
Fantastic 4
Transporter 2

When I will buy the majority of movies I have seen in the summer on DVD (not listed above but I will still probably buy SW3 and The Island as well), I would call it a good summer, at least for most of my treks to the theater...

And Stabb i agree with both of your Von Trier recommendations and I also recommend you check out the Five Obstructions if you haven't yet...

I enjoyed War of the worlds, the Island, and Crash but IMO it was a bad summer for movies.

EDIT: I also liked Unleashed too.

Best movie of the summer? It's a toss up, three-way tie.

Herbie: Fully Loaded
Undiscovered
The Devil's Rejects

Really, who could choose? The fall season looks promising, too.

Roll Bounce
Serenity
Get Rich or Die Tryin'
Saw II
Just Like Heaven

Hollywood is on a roll.

Errr... Sarcasm?

If it is, then you hated Devil's Rejects and already hate upcoming Serenity...
If it's not, then you liked Herbie and can't wait to see 50 Cent acting...

I'd say it's weird either way :undecided

Yes, Indiana, I was being sarcastic . . . or was I?

What I'd really like to see is Herbie: In Da Hood , starring 50 cent.
