Suitable Backpack

Hi there Everyone.

Does anyone know a good rucsac (Backpack) for carrying gear to? I am working on a project and there is a fair bit of walking to get to the locations. Probably easier to have everything in a backpack until the location is reached, rather than in a portabrace.

Gear would include soundkit

Fostex Fr-2
Mics
Zeppelin
Grips
Tripod

plus
Digital SLR
possibly a very small laptop
Water
and general hiking bits and pieces

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Neil

There are backpacks made specifically for photographers, although all the ones I have seen are designed for still cameras. If you can't find one large enough, or layed out correctly, to hold all your gear you might consider a large external frame backpack. You could drop a couple of gear bags into the main compartment and then pull them out as needed. The rigid frame makes it much easier to remove supllies than a softer internal frame pack does There are also side compartments for water bottles, etc. The pack should provide excellent support for carrying the weight – they are generally designed to carry at least 20kg.

I really like my Kata 502 backpack. Its harnessed like a pack meant for hiking, and holds my hvx and a bunch of accesories so I imagine you could rearrange the dividers and make it hold a bunch of sound equipment. Has a pretty handy laptop part place too and all sorts of straps and things to tie even more stuff to you. Very impressive construction though and I'm surprised I didnt pay twice what I did. I'd definitely buy again.

i had a crumpler that i fitted my dvx and powerbook 17" and a few stuff. maybe you can try this bag. I have many crumpler bags for many occasions. they are waterproof and gives a life time warrenty. Funky looking too..I been with crumpler for 10 years now. no complains at all..it rocks. they are the Master of Organised Chaos
here is the bag:
