Suggestions on On-Camera LCD

Hi Everyone. I, like many have made myself a 35mm adapter and am considering purchasing an external LCD to mount on the camera. Does anyone have any recommendations on some economical choices?
Thanks!

Welcome to the board.

The search function works wonders. Try it. Your answer will be found. This question has been asked countless times.

Try the vairzoom 7in package, it does both (horizontally and vertically) functions at the same time. Welcome to the board Issarafree, and what Filmjunkle677 said "use the search".

i'm planning on getting 7 - 10 inch portable dvd player with av inputs. you can get a decent on for $150 - $200. are these other $600 mountable lcd's really any better?

other than the issue of mounting it on the camera (i really dont mind sitting it on a separate stand), can anyone tell me if these are not ideal solution for the price?

My experience with portable DVD players is that the image is low quality, so I would only use this for loose framing and perhaps some focusing. I am looking to get an LCD that i can attach and then be mobile (not nec. tripoded).

I agree with Twocik23.....I have the 7" Varizoom and it really makes life easier with a 35mm adapter for composition and seeing any dust specs on your focus screen. The only problem may come with your tripod head handling all the extra weight. I have the Bogen 503 and it's just not cutting it, so a new head is on my wish list.

What about the old magnet trick?

putting a small magnet on the inside part of your LCD screen and it flips the image.

The magnet trick only works for the older dvx cameras. Plus staring into a 2.5 inch screen for about four hours (if not longer) can be very annoying, and cause alot of strain on your eyes. It's just a headache to see if your shot is in focus or not. That's the problem with the 35mm still camera adapters, the focal plane is too short. So that's why I've been in the workshop for the last 4 weeks trying all kinds of new ideas.

Completely agree. It's hard to go back to str8 non-adapter footage, but it has made shooting a little more tedious, what with the weight of the camera and the extra things you have to worry about (focus etc.)

i have a portable dvd 7" and the picture blows. i do use it with my jib though for framing. i would like to find a good shoemount lcd that flips the image for adapter work. the 7" varizoom is just too bulky for me. i would like something around 4". seems like i have seen xl1 guys with something like this before.... any ideas??

Well then no wonder if never worked for me.......this is the first I've heard about it not working on the DVXB. I thought that as long as you had the flip option for self shoot that it would work.

"hmmm... it worked for me,.. even just now when I clicked on it.. well, if there is interest, just google for it."

What camera are you using? The b is spring loaded, so if you have some sort of way, you must share !! lol
