Suggestions for jibs:

The production crew I'm working with will be needing a jib for an upcoming shoot and we may have the budget to buy one outright versus renting one.

Do any of you own or have experience working with jibs like Kessler Crane, Cobra Crane, Glidecam's Camcrane or other manufacturers of jibs in the sub-$1000 range that you prefer?

We will primarily be shooting on Canon 7Ds, so weight is not really an issue. I appreciate the feedback.

A lot of people seem to like the Kessler unit. I have a Glidecam jib and it works very nicely as long as you're using a light camera and not dealing with wind.

I've used the Cobra Crane and it's crap.

I've used the Jony Jib and it's overpriced crap.

I've owned and used the Kessler Pocket Jib for a few months now and so far it's been a great piece of gear. It handles my 25+ pound 35mm adpater rig so I'm sure it would work perfectly with your 7D. Having an adjustable length arm makes it really flexible for a large variety of dynamic shots and it's very portable too. For the less common large jib shots, I would just rent one as needed...

Cheers,

I work in real estate videography and me and many others have found the best mini jib ever. Its called the kitten deluxe. It's not only an 8 foot tilltable camera crane but it converts into a long or short minijib so you can mount a fluid head on it. Even with the freight costs it was still cheaper than a Kessler and had the added advantage of me being able to use my fluid head.
