Suggestions for dubing dialogue?

I need to dub some dialogue for a couple of exterior shots, which were plagued by everything from passing cars to roosters crowing. I had planned on running my Shure SM-58 directly into the DVX100A, watching the scenes on the computer and recording the new dialogue, then importing the audio into Premiere Pro for editing. Is there a better way to do this? Yes, we're low budget here!:dankk2:

Well yeah, that could work, it won't be easy though. Easier, you can record the audio in Premiere or Audition (with the video as a track in multitrack view) too if you have hardware to connect the mic to your PC, mic Pre amps are actually very affordable .

Make sure the mic is the same one you used on the shoot.

Just a small tip. have the actors PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE till they can't no more, cause if everything is not 100% same it won't work onscreen.

Also since this was shot outside you either need to do the ADR outside (NOT recommended) or get it as "dry" as possible. You want a VERY dead space, hang lots of blankets etc. The when doing the post you will need to add a touch of reverb or echo and backgrounds to get it to sound like it was production.

I would also recommend that you loop whole scenes not just individual lines. It will be very hard with limited recourses to get individual lines to fit existing ones. If the whole scene is looped it's a much easier sell to the audience.

What everyone else said, and I would also add - get the video on the largest screen possible when recording. I've seen ADR sessions where there was a small screen used, and what look like it matched on the small screen clearly did not when blown up larger.

Hmmm... is it possible to record live audio into either Premiere or Audition (I have both)? I assumed I'd have to recapture the newly recorded audio into the project.

yes, Audition is a flagship audio recording/editing package, and premiere supports recording too.

check in the Adobe Help Center, search for record Audio under Premiere Pro, and you will find step by step guides.

(thinking to self ... "they should make the F1 key bigger on keyboards")
