Suggestion for getting work as Vegas Editor

Much talk lately lamenting the dearth of Editing jobs for Vegas Editors--how unless you're trained on Final Cut or Avid, you have no chance of finding work.

To overcome some of the built-in prejudice against Vegas, I suggest that next time you apply for a editing gig and the Producer asks you What software you use, don't say "I use Vegas", instead become immediately dismissive and knowing and remark "Oh, I do all my work *IN* Vegas". The idea is to make the producer think of the City of Las Vegas and that you and not he, know that editing in the City of Las Vegas
denotes a special skill set and credibility. The producer, will likely nod knowingly, pretending he too is privy to all the hot post work done in the sparkling city. I'm a producer, and we bluff all the time--and in actuality we know almost nothing. This trick will most likely work will and get you alot of money editing with vegas. So remember, you edit "IN" Vegas, not "WITH" Vegas. Big difference.
 
Brian, that is hilarious. Good tip!!! You can even say something like this: I do all my work "in" Vegas using the same tools as the guy who did Fast and Furious, Monster and Stealth (Brian Transeau). They'll be even more impressed :-)

we have a eye out for a editor for a feature Documentary ( 90% shot) - prefer editor that knows Vegas ( not the city) .
so far only came across 1 ( knows vegas) that we felt was qualified ..
so far just about all qualified editors are using Avid ..few FCP ...

so where are the pro Vegas editors ( with a good amount of experience cutting )
 
How funny - I came here today with intentions of posting a similar thread. I too have become fed up with the pomp of FCP and Avid. While I can accept they're both great editors, it's a shame Vegas is often left in the dark corner.

I'm considering pitching clients as such "I'll be editing this project in Vegas - if it makes you feel better, I can tell you I'm editing it in FCP or Avid, edit in Vegas, and you'll still receive the same great product!"

i'd also like to know if anyone knows of any shows/movies/etc that most people know about and were edited in Vegas ...surely there has to be some out there?
 
Brilliant. Actually, Ive said that before, and she double-taked. I said I work in Vegas again, and she still didnt get it.
