Hi.

There are some questions that pop up quite frequently. The answer to most of them is of course: Read the manual, but as it is, everyone wants to get started first... -;)

1. Why does the image on my computerscreen look so bad
2. Last steps before DVD
3. What do my scopes indicate
4. What is that thing about the color red and DV
5. Why not capture to system/application drive

Please add up.
I think we could do well with having a "FCP in 5 minutes" manual on top here. If Shane think it's ok to link to his stock answers, that would be great!

Varicam?
BenB?

I think that sounds like a solid idea. The ones you listed certainly do appear a lot. And for the DVD stuff, we could do both a brief "manual" and link to the new Compressor book which Ben feels is well done (will try to snag a copy later this week once I get home, finally).

It would also be good in that if another point seems to be arising on a very regular basis we could then easily add it (and of course in this stuff, with ever changing technologies, that's not a hard one to have happen).

Anyway, just in the office for a few today to wrap up loose ends before my trek home tomorrow. So good idea Gun. Talk to guys on the flip side.

cheers.

I have 38 stock answer that I cut and paste from my Stickies file...like:

Shane's Stock Answer #2: Blurry playback

ONLY JUDGE THE QUALITY OF YOUR MATERIAL ON AN EXTERNAL NTSC MONITOR, OR AT LEAST A TV.

1. Disable overlays on the canvas
2. Make sure you've rendered everything (no green bars at the top of the timeline

Video playback requires large amounts of data and many computations. In order to maintain frame rate and be viewable at a normal size, only about one-fourth of the DV data is used in displaying the movie to the screen. However, the DV footage is still at full quality, and is best viewed thru a TV or NTSC monitor routed thru your camera or deck.

But yes, every help site needs a FAQ.

Thanks

I know there are tons of sources out there, but the people coming here seems to find a home here -;)

So I think this could make it a bit more comfortable.

The ATPS book "Optimizing Your Final Cut Pro System" was written for this reason. Every FCP user should have it. If you use FCP and don't have this book, shame on you.
