Sufficient Interest?

I am aware a few others have done this before, but I am wondering, is there enough interest in the 'short film' dvd market to warrant me full out producing a disc with 2 films on it?

An idea i have is to include the two films "Absolution" & "Linus & the 5th World" (more info here: http://www.dreamsoftfilms.com/films ) along with several extras, such as:

- Producer / director commentary on both films
- "Re-dubbed" versions of both films with unique hilarious dialogue that has little to do with what is happening on screen.
- Behind the scenes doc for both
- Storyboard to screen comparison (for Linus)
- 5.1 Mixed sound

In total, my two films have a running time of 40min (21min & 18min respectively).

I also thought about including some of my earlier work, but I don't think I want to dilute the disc.

Would anyone be interested in something like this? I would love to make some of the money back that I put into these works (breaking even on would make me happy).

I think that you would need at least 60 minutes to warrant some sort of dvd. If I looked at a dvd that was 15 bucks and it's 40 minutes I might not want to buy that. I think however if it was say, 40mins plus 20 mins BTS. I may consider... eh perhaps I'm cheap!

nah.. I am also cheap in that way...

I would think it would be around $12.99... and the total material would be over an hour... about 90min or so.

You already have a publisher interested loki? Or thinking of making it and shopping it around? id love a screener of both if you are still looking for a publisher for retail.

We dont usually publish anything under 60 minutes unless its instructional like health and fitness stuff.

I'd PM JohnC Lyons(think that his name).

Did Hunting Camp. They put a lot of effort into self distributing their film. Might be able to give you insight into the ratio of amount of work to profit.

I just watched Absolution. Pretty good film, excellent cinematography, actors were great. But, I just watched it for free. Maybe you shouldn't have the entire movie on the site, but instead have a killer trailer to promote the films.

Maybe set up a page with all the info regarding the dvd you'd put out with links to trailers and photos etc. and do the same thing the guys from The Ore are doing and set up pre order dvds. That way you can gauge if you should author dvds on your own or if you'd be better off getting a company to mass author.

Glad you enjoyed the film. I am hesitant about trailers for my films.... I am not really a trailer person when it comes to shorts, but I know what your talking about.

Absolution is not finished yet; the sound design still needs to be worked on and the final mix is coming soon. I find that with the running time of Absolution, people tend to rarely download and watch it on the site.. it is definately a better experience in a theatre setting than on a computer screen.

I am still awaiting responses to several film fests on Absolution. The version thats up now isn't staying on for much longer. The final mixed film is due very soon.

Oh, and as an aside, never shoot a film outdoors with lots of traffic nearby with incompetent sound people. ADR is hell.. hell i say..

sorry it was late when I posted last night .. and just forgot about your post..

Currently the answer is no. No publisher or distribution deals or anything yet. I haven't yet seriously looked into that yet (I wasn't really aware of any distributors/publishers that dealt with shorts actually.)

Could you PM me with more details on your business?
