While everyone is talking about the HVX, I had the opportunity to see real 1080i HVX footage today at a meeting. All I have to say is that the image is clean as hell! One downfall of the camera that they mentioned was that when you shoot on to tape the footage looks way too similar to the DVX. They should me the comparison between the DVX and the HVX. The HVX looked abit sharper but other than that, most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference. I expected to really stand out alot more than the DVX. Anyway, my question is why is Asia getting these cameras way before the US? The guy who showed me the footage is from Hong Kong. Crazy I tell you. I'm better off renting the SDX900. The price of P2 is just rediculous!

i wonder if footage recorded directly to tape would look any different then footage dubbed from hd on a p2 card to tape.

i would assume that since the chips are different that the image recorded to tape would vary somehow.

im wondering how the footage looks downrezed to tape by the camera from p2.

anyway, i kinda like that this thread is in the cafe. i kind dont like going into the HVX forum anymore.
 
In one of those Panasonic seminars Jan said the SD DV would be just like the DVX, they did that on purpose I guess so you you can sell your DVX to get the HVX and not feel like you have given up anything.

That's my understanding. The DV tape drive in the HVX will only record up to a 25Mbps signal (equivalent to the DVX).

I've read that the P2 cards will record both a 50Mbps signal and a 100Mbps signal.

Well, of course not -- why would they? You're comparing a 1/3" DV camera against a 1/3" DV camera, both with CineGamma/CineMatrix etc.

I expected to really stand out alot more than the DVX.

Why? They're both recording DV at that point. I'm just pleased you said it looks as good as the DVX did. That's great news.

If you want it to stand out, you'd have to use DV50 or DVCPRO-HD mode, and then yes, it should be night-and-day different from the DVX.

......i have bad news about HVX....I CANT GET ONE!!..my dad was liek..OMFG P2 IS LIKE SUPER CRAZY EXSPENSIVE! SCREW THAT...GET A DVX!.......now all hope is lost...unless i can come up with bout 12,000 dollars by like June....and Subway is a piece of crap place........maybe i should be a waiter....lol

I used a HVX a few months ago...during the summer at an expo..that thing was a massive brick...its kinda heavy....suggestion to you all...if your getting one..go to the gym and work the arms..especially the forearms..which also can be done in the privacy of your own home. :thumbup:
 
..what is it.. a whole whopping pound or so heavier than the DVX..?
while it is brick like in its appearance, i wouldnt say that it is a heavy object by any means after playing with it some as you did.

you gots to eat mo' spinach. :)
 
Well....maybe me not going to the weight room since like....mid August and not pumpin iron has to do with that.

Today was my first day back....omg..rape...

i still think it was pretty heavy thou....
 
My question is, what would happen in a street brawl between a DVX100A, and the HVX? With the added weight, the HVX would be more of a bruiser, but the DVX would be kind of scrappy. Any thoughts?

Hell, sometimes my DVX jumps out of the shadows and kicks my ass when I'm on the way to the bathroom at 4am. Try explaining that one to the girlfriend.
