Succos

[DerrickTempleton]

I was browsing a bunch of retail sites and realized they were all closed this week. B&H Photo is closed all the way until October 5th! I found out this is for the Succos holiday. Most sites are only closed until this coming Sunday, but B&H is closed a whole week and a half. That's a long break for such a big company...

They take breaks for religious holidays all the time. It's getting so that I don't bother to go to their site as my first-check place for gear anymore. They must be doing more than enough business to be able to take so much time off.

It's not a question of how much money they make, they are not allowed to do business on those holidays, and not allowed to employ others to do business for them on those holidays. Up until a year or two ago, IIRC, they accepted orders over the web on holidays but didn't process them until after - but as that caused many issues with customers who didn't understand the delays, and also possibly as a result of a stricter interpretation of laws, they have stopped accepting orders at all during holidays. I'm sure this costs them business, but it's not a choice they can make or not make...
