Successfully getting a corporate sponsor for a film - Anyone do it?

For what it's worth, I say go for the sponsorship. In my view I'd rather get it and make a film then be worried about someone thinking I'm a hack. If you can do it, be honest and upfront about it, and be proud of the end result go for it.

People will call you a hack and sellout regardless of what you do, haha

Thank you Burritoclock... people will question me not taking any sponsorship anyway (or think I took it and never claimed it publically or lied about getting it). If I'm considered a sell-out, well, I'm trying to get a legit documentary done, having a sponsor who doesn't even need to advertise doesn't kill the film's premise at all. Besides, it's not the subject who's taking the money, it the production part of the film which gets it.

What about a short interview with you (I assume, or the lead "producer" or whatever) somewhere in the film explaining your passion for the subject, the struggle to get funding, and then go into detail about the hard decisions and the worries with getting funding from these sources. I'm just thinking out loud here, don't know the structure of your film, but that could be an interesting take and something not done usually and it also helps with the honesty.

I also was wondering, is the supplement the entire focus of the film? I didn't get that impression and assumed it was either the affliction or natural remedy's in general. Now if this one sponsor's product is the sole purpose of the whole film... then yes it would kinda be a long commercial... anyway, just some thoughts.

Hmmm, interesting point indeed. Almost like coming clean even before anyone raises questions then, almost like beating someone to the punch, therefore, being honest about what the sponsorship was all about. I like this approach if the sponsorship was to happen. We've got nothing to hide at all and it would explain how we got funding for this film without selling our collective souls too. I def will consider this indeed, thanks for the input :)

No, the supplement is only a very, very small fraction of the film and the recovery for the subject. It's only concerning with the naturopathic portion of what we are documenting and, even then, the subject took other supplements like multi-vitamins and cleansers too. The film is to run 80-90 mins long, so if the supplements were discussed for a 1-2 minutes at most (which I think it will be less than a minute realistically), we're talking about 1-1.5% of the film.

Thanks for your input and suggestions too, very helpful indeed!
