Subtitles in After Effects (text animation)

I'm trying to achieve a certain effect in After Effects with these subtitles.. and I know there must be a simpler way to do it...

what I need... I need the sentence to be on the screen.. and as the reader says the word for the text to change in color and change slightly in scale.. and then have it keep the color changed.. while making the scale go back to normal again.

how can I do this?... right now I'm key framing each line onto one layer.. and do all the timing one sylible at a time... its mind numbingly painful to work on.. there has to be some level of automation to help me out.
thanks...help!

There's probably an expression that would do this, but making it work in time with the spoken words is still going to be an issue. Seems like it'll be a manual job any way you approach it.

A while back I posted this on AE Freemart, that might be of some help:

I wish I could say "click here and do this" for the color and scale stuff. But, you'd want 2 animators, one for scale and one for color. As you use that expression that I made, you should be able to easily slide the animators through each line.

Still a lot of work. Wish I had the time to play with a project, but the pressure is on to wrap this job I am on.
