Subtitles disappear in Blu-ray created in Encore

I'm having some massive panic problems here. This needs to be resolved the day before yesterday.

So if anyone's reading this, help me out if you know the answer.
I've googled about this but come up empty or at least I can't find a sollution.

Here's the thing:
I'm putting English subtitles on a screener Blu-ray of Marianne, and I need to ship this right away.

Problem is, every time I burn a disc and test it in my player (a Samsung BD-P1600), the subtitles disappear somewhere halfway into the film. They never disappear in the same place, but they always disappear.

This is a huge problem because I'm working on my desktop and I was supposed to be in Stockholm 700km from here from last week, but I can't go if this isn't resolved and it can't wait because these screeners need to be shipped.

I've made sure no subtitles are within 2 frames from eachother (I think I've put at least 4-5 frames between each one).
No subtitle crosses a chapter mark, in fact I didn't even have any chapter marks on it when this problem started.
I've tried ADDING chapter marks, but that didn't help.

I've also tried updating Encore to the latest version of CS4 (don't know why I hadn't already), but the damn thing started re-transcoding the whole film now so instead of waiting 2 hours for a BD-disc to burn I now have to wait 10 hours for it to transcode... again.

When I've googled I've found Encore has BD subtitling problems but everyone says it's when you FF/RW or step forward/backwards that the subtitles disappear. For me they just go away by themselves in random places.

Anyone got a fix for this, PLEASE let me know.

Adobe Encore has been horrifyingly buggy in my experience when using subtitles. In your time crunch I would try to find somone local who has a different BD authoring software, or fallback to DVD if it has to have the subtitles.

Sorry to hear about your problems. I will never personally trust Adobe Encore for any kind of professional application again, as I have been burned like you in the past with their software.

Thanks.

Yeah unfortunately there's no one in this small town who does that sort of thing. That's why I'm here, to start a film community.
I tried updating to the latest version of Encore and I'm watching the disc as I'm typing this.

The subtitles don't work if you change chapter or FF/RW, but I'm playing the film straight through now and I'm on the 1 hour mark (MARIANNE is 2 hours long).
So far so good, as long as nobody touches the remote.

I also started transcoding a DVD an hour ago. That'll take a good while, but if the subs work (and there's no problem with audio sync due to the framerate change), that's a sollution.
We'll see in a few hours.

Shouldn't you try playing it in something OTHER than your Samsung Blu-ray player just to make sure? Or is it the only way you can playback Blu-rays at the moment?

Yes on both counts.

I actually tried playing a disc last week when I presented Marianne to a potential distributor. They also had a Samsung BD, but the disc didn't work at all on their player. Dont' know why. Maybe it's an older model, maybe it's because the project was NTSC and their player couldn't handle that, maybe their firmware wasn't updated or it couldn't read BD-Rs. Who knows.

Anyway, I don't know anyone IRL with a PS3 or a BD player except myself. Weird when you think about it, but there you have it.

Okay updating Encore helped.
Subtitles still disappear, but only if someone messes around, skipping chapters or rewinding/fast forwarding. If I let the disc just play from start to finish, they stay.

For screeners this won't be much of an issue, and as soon as the film is done we won't have this problem because we're not using Encore.

DVD works fine.
Subtitles work, even though I try RW/FF and skipping chapters. no problem
No problem with audio synch either despite changing framerate from 23.976 to 29.97.

Encore CS4 + Blu-ray = BAD IDEA.
Major warning to anyone trying that.
