I have no idea, really.

I'd check out some MV websites. I'm sure having an actual kick ass signed helps

I did that mtv spot... but, they came to me... MTV (for spots/bumpers/ID's, etc) outsources qite a bit to design firms, etc.

Get in good with designers/firms that have a strong reputation in the field with that type of work, maybe they'll outsource some stuff to you...

It's all who you know.

Which is one of the reasons I love this site. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Re: Submitting your work for MTV ?

Usually it is the record labels that are sleeping with the MTV exec's but with the internet there all sluts now... :P

best thing to do if the band doesn't have a label than is to submit a betacam SP to the station and if possible sit down with a program director and show him the cut...if it's good they'll play it.
Face to face is the best...that's how years ago I go a bunch of vids played on Much Music in Canada.

You can always pay to have your promo, commercial, etc. air on the MTV network channel. I am sure it is going to be expensive though. You may be able to do this through your local cable company. I have seen local stuff aired on BET and MTV before around here.

Also you can check out this site and request a free sample of their magazine. I think now they are charging you for shipping but it used to be ALL free. The site is www.cvcreport.com in the magazine it has listings for all sorts of Music Video/Entertainment shows all across the country where you could submit work to if you wanted. The subscription to the magazine is like $300 a year or something like that but if you get the free sample, you might be able to make some things happen with that as a start.

I am one of those quick edit, fast paced, MTV "style" shooter/editors. I don't work for them YET! LOL!!! I do have a fraternity brother that is a producer there though. I have sent my demo reel to the Senior Producer of "Cribs" as well as some other people there.

The thing with MTV is that they usually contract out another video production company to shoot their shows. There is some stuff that the MTV staff shoots. I was told they do their own MiniDV work. Shows like "Jackass" "True Life" and a few others are mostly minidv shoots...

You could watch a show then pay attention to the credits to see what company is doing the work then contact them and send them your work. That might be one way of doing it.

I would be careful about just sending MTV any ol' thing because lets say you have some really good stuff and its not COPYRIGHTED they COULD take that idea from you and use it to their advantage mean while telling you that they don't like the idea.

That happened to a guy I work with, except it was with various Music Videos though. He is good friends with Benny Boom director of R&B and Hip Hop videos and he claims that Benny stole a lot of his ideas that he sent him on his demos and used those same techniques that are being played out on the videos he directs which can be seen on VH-1, MTV and BET.

Just becareful...
