Subclip question

When you create subclips and have FCP create discreet media files from the subclips, will it maintain the original timecode offsets or does it re-set the TC to 00:00:00;00 at the start of each clip?

Now it is also claimed that defining subclips will improve performance when dealing with a large media file regardless of whether you create the separate media files or not. Is this indeed the case?

TIA!

I've not created new media based on sub-clips myself so not 100% on that one. But I would imagine it should. When you simply create a sub-clip in the browser it certainly maintains the master timecode. It would be quite odd if it lost it. However, being that the logging process is specifically meant to break up your tapes in the first place, maybe it does reset the TC. I'd just create a test project file and do a few clips and see what happens.

Claimed where? On a smaller project maybe you won't see much of a difference, I'm not sure. I know on larger projects when having had to trouble shoot stuff, people that have ingested lots of large (full tape) media files tend to get headaches (FCP is unhappy). If you create sub-clips and then create seperate media files, well again, that's the same as logging it properly in the first place, so why not just log it? And that would increase performance because then FCP is just dealing with the small clips (like you'd expect to have in any edit situation). Good luck.

cheers.
