Stuttering, stopping playback with multicam

I'm trying to edit a music video and am using multicam for the first time. I have a
15" Intel Macbook Pro with 2 gig memory. Normally playback is OK, but with multicam the timeline will not playback more than 3-4 seconds without stalling ,
stuttering or stopping playback. I shot 720 30PN and the sequence settings are
correct. Any ideas?

You need a beefier system. FCP 6 gives you the option to playback in a low quality, this may help. You'll find the option in that little arrow pulldown menu in the top left corner of the timeline.

I'm on version 5.14... any chance the problem is the HD? I'm using a firewire 400
drive for capture scratch. In the past, when I have used the internal drive for scratch
disc, it actually performed better than this FW drive. I may try that again, just to get through this project.

I'd say the problem is that you're editing multiple streams of HD using the minimum system requirements. Upgrading your external to FW 800 may help significantly. Someone once told me that editing from the internal with HD was a bad idea because it didn't have fast enough buses or spin-time or something as compared to a FW 800 drive, and you could lock up your whole system.
