stupid teachers!

My brother was in the Gulf War during the first War (Skirmish) and was fortunate to be in Communications; his job was a switchboard and able to call whenever on shift. Mostly he's call me at Midnight or 3:00 AM when I was getting ready to go Repo some cars. The reason she can't call during school off hours? I'm assuming her shift? Her access to phones? They generally can't just call whenever they want but usually when they can or allowed to.

This is a perfect of example of an idiot teacher. RIGHT WRONG RIGHT WRONG and no ability to bend, be flexible, adapt or improvise nor see grey. I would have said the same thing to the dude.

If you follow that link at the bottom of the article, there's link to email the principal of the school.... what do ya think....huh, should we???

Miss Rutledge

I read with much dismay the article regarding the suspension of student Kevin Francois and the disruption that occurred when asked to end the phone call with his mother who is currently serving in Iraq.

My brother served 10 Months in Iraq and it was one of the more emotionaly grueling events for myself and our family. Fortunately he returned and has since ended his tour in the Army after serving 4 years. I do not doubt the student was disruptive or disorderly but I think it prudent you and your staff think outside the lines at times especially considering the emotional currents that can and most likely do carry this situation. I think it prudent you and your staff take into consideration at times the brevity of the issue at hand and learn to adapt and become a bit more flexible on the rules and guidelines.

I find it not terribly hard to imagine if something was to happen to this young mans mother in her tour of duty and a remembrance of not being allowed to communicate because some person in power (an assistant no less) decided that a rule is a rule is a rule. I do agree with the 'No Cell Phones' during school rule; but under the circumstances a person should be given some leeway.

I have to support this young man and his response in being told to hang up even after stating it was his mother in Iraq (where there has been over 1700 Coaltion Deaths and over 12,000 wounded). Sometimes the best decision isn't a steadfast rule and rules should be more guidelines than absolutes.

Nice work, John! If I were to email them, it probably wouldn't carry as much weight as yours does... most likely due to my constant use of the word "douchebag."

Ironically, the schools website shows the 29th Infantry Reg as a "Partner in Education"

Nice work John.

that's just rediculous. i totally agree with john, the spirit of the rule is more impotant than following it down to the letter. i hate school administrators.

..well i dont think that simply "hating school administrators" is going to fix anything. we need schools.. and they need administrators. and alot of them are very good at what they do. thats kind of similar to people that say they hate the police.

..anyway . id agree with what you guys have said. i cant stand it when people let a rule get in the way of the greater good. when a rule or law isnt servibg its intended purpose or helping.. but hurting.. people need to learn to recognize that and know when to put the rules aside in better judgment.

example 1:
a month ago my wife locked my daughter in our van.. she had to call me and i couldnt get ther till over 1/2 hour later .. so i made a u-turn in a utility turn around on a hwy to get home faster.. a state trooper saw me and followed me all the way to my place.. i was zipping there so he didnt catch up till i was already home and out of the car about a minute later.. he called me over and asked about the u-turn.. i explained the situation to him as my wife got our daughter out, and he just said .. "oh .. ok then.. dont worry about it.. id have done the same thing." and then gave me my license back and left. needless to say i thanked him for being so understanding.

exapmle 2: my family is looking for a new home right now, and we found a really nice 1/2 duplex that we really really really wanted. the village it was in wouldnt let the seller sell it as 1/2 duplex because the sewer laterals from each side connected together into a little short section of pipe before entering the main village sewer. so they didnt want the units sold seperately because they didnt want the buyer to not know that they were jointly responsible for a section of plumbing. I went to the village and told them.. hey .. im the buyer.. and the other owners want to have it changed too.. we know about it.. this is what we want. we share a roof.. we share walls.. we share siding .. we want to share a little pipe and just add it to the agreement. they said no. .. it has to be one unit and stated the same reasoning.. to protect the buyers. ..uh.. ok. then we went to our lender and said well wed have to write up condo docs for it to cover the sewer and thats all. but its still just a duplex.. they said they wouldnt lend on a condo unless at the time of offer at least 70% of the units..not counting your own you want to buy are sold.. and since theres only one other unit.. its only 50%.. i asked them what someone was supposed to do for a 3 or under unit condo.. they said ..uh we dont know. we dont have a provision for that. so i went up the ranks trying to get someone to listen.. no deal. needless to say we didnt get the place, and i did not thank them. ..either of them.

..fudgesicle. ..that still irritates me.
