stupid sound

you know, one thing I'm really disappointed about with Hollywood is sound. I mean here we've made all this progress in every single department (video instead of film, digital instead of video, black and white goes to color, digital backgrounds, digital editing, cameras that don't need as much light... and the list goes on) and we still have to hold a stupid boom over a guy's head to get good sound. I mean has anybody thought about how ridiculous this is?

With all the technology we have, two people should just be able to talk, unobstructed, and record good audio.

Is anyone working on this? Any company? Any individual? Cause you'd think, with the lack of competition, that if someone could figure it out, they'd be a billionaire.

Lavs.

And Jerry Lewis used/uses multiple mics hidden all around the set.

But it's simpler using a boom. One channel to worry about, rather than having to mix multiple channels all the time.
