Stupid People

Okay strange post but I want to vent about the stupid things people do when you are filming. Feel fee to add to the list, I know there are a ton more.

Example...

The morons that all stick there tongue out at the camera... Yeah like that is something we all really wanted to see...

Or how about when you are doing an interview on the street and people get behind the person and wave at the camera...

And why is it when you put some men on camera they have to show how little of muscle they really have...

Girls becoming giggle-boxes for no apparent reason...

That strange phenomenon where the on-camera just *has* to flip a bird...

The *sshole that shouts out profanities from their zooming car as you're shooting MOS' in public...

The agent/producer/pa that suddenly steps into frame or background, just to see what's going on....

The list goes on and on and on and on.

I thought you were talking about stupid actors. I could talk all day about them.

All other things being equal, I prefer to work with very intelligent people as opposed to very talented people. If someone happens to be both, then it's a major bonus for me!

Actors are a whole 'nother bird. An actor friend, in a rare moment of clarity, once told me that to be a really *good* actor, a person needs to be increadibly insecure with themselves and a bit off balance to begin with...not always the case I'm sure, but she does have a point!

LOL I love that... that one I will have to remember...

One of the "adults" on our shoot last Friday... he was bringing something from the truck, walking on the lawn in the background. When noticing he might be in the frame, instead of stepping quietly out, he RAN across the whole frame. I am planning to include the shot in the Zombie flick for everyone to see  .

Another one: a friend of mine related a story to me where an AD noticed a fly on the lead actor shoulder. It was a CU shot and the shoulder was not in the picture (which the AD should have been aware of). All of the sudden, she SMACKS the actor's shoulder with a slate in the middle of a take. Explanation? She was concerned that the fly might take off and the buzz would ruin the sound... sigh

I don't know, Trent...that was a classic of all classic trip/stumble/fall & rolls. PLUS, you did it down the stairs and over the couch! The look on your face when you recovered will forever be one of the funniest things I've ever seen!

lol okay you can use it... but don't put my real name anywhere. I still can not believe how ungraceful I was. and if I could have done it with out laughing it would have worked well for the the piece...

Ya, Hahaha. That's never funny when it's happening. At least we can laugh now, right?

Stoopid People:

Myself when I run outta batteries.

actors who bring relationships to the set. as in a the phone ore there. I had to shoot a entire 20 short film in four hours becuase of that. irritating.

When an actor in a scene is moving their lips to the dialogue the other actor is speaking. As if they've got it memorized too. :)

We used to have a problem with stage actors making a smooth transition to film/video acting. They would project their voice too much and be too animated. Not stupid, but annoying. :)

Here are some things I have noticed that annoy me:

1. When actors loose props.

2. When no one wants to be interviewed.

3. When the location you are at for doco interviews wont turn their music down.

4. When crew members don’t show.

5. When (low budget) clients think you charge to much when you only quote for your time (leaving petrol, tape stock, cam hire, music and all that other stuff out of the budget!).

6. When clients with no expertise choose not to get you to do their video and their reason is that they will do it them self with a 1ccd handycam and not edit it to save money, even though 400 odd people will watch its horridness for 30min.

7. Grooms that dont want to be filmed at their wedding.

and number 8.... PHOTOGRAPHERS WHO STAND IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA! AND MAKE IRRATIC FLASHES APPEAR ALL OVER YOUR VIDEO!
