I know that you're always supposed to unmount a drive before you disconnect it. But sometimes, when I go to 'safely remove hardware' it tells me that the device cannot be stopped, and that I should try again later. This will be far after I've accesed what I needed to, but it's still logged as busy, and it won't let me unmount for up to 30 minutes.

It's enough to make you want to rip the firewire right out of the sucker. Damn technology.

its probably your software still running in the background. like vegas or something that had been accessing the drive. once in a great while it happens to me on my mac

When that happens, I just reboot. Problem solved.
Yeah, that's what I usually do. It's just a pain, and I just felt like complaining.

Same here. Except the last time I shut down instead of rebooting.
Once it was shut down I switched it with a Mac.

It's been fine every since.

Alright alright... just kidding.
I'm just going for the cheap joke here - no plaform wars.

CRAP CRAP CRAP!!!!!!

It's crashed now! My computer is saying that it's not formatted, and asks me if I want to format it now. CRAP!!!

Any ideas?

That happened to me once (although probably for a different reason). I had to use data recovery software to get my stuff, and then reformat the drive.

That's a good idea. I'll have to pick some up tomorrow.

Stupid Maxtor.
