Studio Projects C4

I had a set of these, but sold them to buy the AKG CK93/SE300B hypers... I've been very happy with the CK93 for dialogue- I even sold the CK91 cardioid because I liked the hyper just a bit more. I know the AKG combo of CK91 & CK93 would run you a lot more than the C4 series, but you have a more proven/quality mic in the AKG & you'll probably not use the C4 omni's in video recording. (My .02!)

Thanks Grant. I'm aware of those as well. Just wanted to get information on the Studio Projects C4. I'm hoping this doesn't turn into a versus thread. Not really needing to know which microphone is better. I'm aware of the other hypercardioids as well but just wanted to see if anyone had experience with the SP C4's. Thanks guys.

Nicole,

One of the things I didn't like about them was the threaded caps, same thing with the Sennheiser ME series. The overall feeling was that they didn't feel like they were going to hold up well... The AKG Blue Line series feel so much more solid. I was also not thrilled with sound for voices- most people use these for musical instruments, although the self-noise is low enough you could also use them for ambience recordings.

I originally bought the C4's to use in X-Y, ORTF or NOS setups for the cards/hypers, and AB or Jecklin Disc setup for the omnis. I ended up moving to the AKG's for the hypers, especially on dialog, and found a pair of Audio-Technica 3032 omnis for the AB/Jecklin ambience recording.

Thanks for the information. I was able to get more information from another guy and he said they would work but I would probably end up getting rid of them because they are more geared towards instruments. I'm looking at the Rode NT5, AKG, Audix, or the Oktava.

Thanks
Nicole
