Studio light kit

Looks like hot lights and not strobes. If found an older Novatron set that does a total of 240w and had 3 flash heads. I paid $160 including shipping on it from a lady in South FL. She threw it up on craigslist. If you want a studio set I would look for a deal like that on something that will actually over power the ambient light. I used it the first night I got it to take this self pic (stupid pose was to prevent glare in my glasses). I also took this picture of my wife when she was standing in the front yard and set the shutter to expose for the sky.

Those are constant lights but they are using energy efficient bulbs. It looks like a DIY project and based off the design there is no way you are going to have a controllable beam... too much spill.

What sort of studio are you looking to design? That will help us put together a better flash package. Are you doing portrait or more model? How mobile do you need to be? What sort of budget?

Oh, I am not in the market right now, I just won a Canon Speedlite 580EX. Just wanted to share my findings, but those are good questions to consider when the time comes for a more serious setup, thanks.
