Studio 9 erroring off during rendering

I've made probably two dozen vids with vegas studio 9 with no problem, well, plenty of problems, but mostly learning stuff. I'm running on Vista 32 bit. Yesterday, I went to render a video I'd assembled and it errored off about 60% of the way through. The template was one I've used before, and the footage came from a camera (Cannon) I've used in previously successful builds. The details about the error had a lot of hexadecimal stuff and mentioned things like ntdll, kernal and such. Where can I go to get help on tracking down what's wrong? There doesn't seem to be a "check for updates" option in the vegas menu system.

Restart the PC to restart freshly and try to re-render. If it crashes again, note exactly where it crashes, and see if you are using any plugins or geometry stuff at that exact point. If yes, remove them. If no, go to the prefs and set the number of threads in the Editing tab to "1" and retry.

Vegs crashes are difficult to resolve. There is a known bug with Vegas when running on 64-bit systems, but that won't help you since you are on 32-bit.

My best guess is to see what version(s) of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable you have on your system. Vegas uses the 2005 version, which is not the latest. If you have more than one version on your system (this happens frequently) try removing all of them (this will stop Vegas from running of course) and reinstalling the 2005 version. It is possible for DLL's to get mixed up between the 2 versions, especially if you install a later one after Vegas installed the 2005 version.

You can get the 2005 version by searching the Microsoft website. Another approach is to de-install Vegas, de-install all C++ stuff, reboot, and re-install Vegas.

I went through this a couple weeks ago. A (quite large) project worked perfectly, then just stopped rendering after I went back to it after a few months for a few updates. I re-imported all the clips around the region it crashed, turned-off plugins, but nothing worked.

What eventually worked was starting a new project, and dragging the .veg file into a new track, then rendering that. It took about 4 times longer to render, but no errors!
