Student copy = you can't make profit?

Is it true that if you buy a copy of Premiere pro v. 1.5 with a student discount, that you're not allowed to make money off of the content you edit with the said copy?

I'm not entirely sure. Read the license agreement and see what it has to say. I think this is an area that differes from company to company.

You young grasshopper. You're not supposed to be making any sort of profit on educational software. All you have to do is keep your mouth shut and make your video. But hey, don't listen to me. Do it at your own risk. :)

The full version is $699 SRP - I have seen it for $500. I got the PPro 1.5 from 1.0 upgrade for $99. The upg from edu versions is $279 I think. You can get it bundled with a matrox x10 card for like $600.

There's really no way for them to check whether a project was done on a student version or fullpaid version. Obviously, if you want to keep your conscience clean you'll follow their directions, but honestly there are plenty of small editing and post places that are stocked with and using educational software for paid professional work.

I've commented about this before, and I don't want to seem like a dick, but if you're making a profit, be legit. If you making money from what you produce, you can afford the proper licenses. Anything otherwise it theft. I have legit copies of everything I run (Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, PageMaker, Encore DVD) and while it costs a bundle, it's honest. Especially since part of what I charge my customers is overhead to keep updated and upgraded.

We're content creators. We should all be legit. Just my two-cents worth.

http://www.

I couldn't agree more.

Remember, when you use non legit software, it is the same as copying dvd's. Do you want someone to steal your hard work on a movie? One of the big reasons that companies have to charge a lot for software is because of piracy.
