I'm going to weld the screw couplings onto the C-clamps. I have two for each. Then I can move the baby pin from one position to the other without having to buy two for each clamp. I might buy a couple more baby pins anyway, but I like being about to remove them, since they're the only element that's not easily obtainable at any hardware store.

Let us know how the welding works out. I tried to weld some 5/8" bolts (which work well as baby pins) onto some c clamps last year and I couldn't get the welds to hold since they were dissimilar metals.

Tape isn't really going to hold the pin all that well, let along a tweenie or 1k baby.

I think he ment tap not tape. Tapping is drilling a hole then threading the inside of the hole so you can screw a bolt into the hole.

I like my tap like I like my beverage - Scotch.

Yeah, like I said: tap.

Overland,
Man that's a sweet set. I got a super small set, but wouldn't mind buying one like yours. where did you get it? also what material is it made of. I've seem some sets that are made of harder material which cost double, but I'm sure will last at least twice as long.

I don't know who's set that is - mine is the Irwin 40 piece set. I use it too little, but I avoid fabbing whenever possible.

:)

A good tap and dye set I can't live without.

Siniarch, most of the stuff we need work with is aluminum, you can get by without a super expensive set. The whole key is to use the right lubricant for the job. Kerosine is at the top of the list for aluminum. Now... if you work mostly with steel, you might want to spend the big bucks on an better set, but only if you are using it alot.

Ah yes... I guess you learn something everyday. I know I certainly did. Now that I think of it someone would need to be diagnosed with some form of delerium for them to want to tape something to a c clamp. Ha.
