Stuck in an airport? Make a movie

The airport says it’s too soon to determine whether they’ll file criminal charges against the men.

Many people do not know that Texas has laws against having fun and acting outside of the norm. Most likely these guys will be on death row in the next few weeks or even worse they may be sent to Oklahoma.

Hate to be the curmudgeon but I think this can be viewed in two ways:

1. People acting in immature and sometimes illegal ways.

2. People creating a video that documents 1.

So when did creating a video that documents immature and sometimes illegal behavior become an act of creativity?

There is so much more they could have done. They could have created something artistic. Or even a story.

Fourth largest airport in the US.

I used to work at DFW. It's a ghost town at night. Absolutely deserted. I always assumed security was looming around every corner because I knew a lot of the officers on the night shift.

This video is kind of saddening.

The only thing they really did that was probably illegal was in the bar. The rest of it was just goofing off to kill time. I mean, hand stands, running up the escalator, playing around on wheelchairs? If I were security and didn't see the bar, but did see two young guys with a camera playing around, I would have put two and two together and probably left them alone as well.

I want to go back to the days of pre 9-11, where you could relax in an airport and even have fun. I'm so tired of everyone worrying that anyone not acting like an obedient Sunday school child may be the next shoe bomber terrorist.

True, and it's not like anybody saw them... oh wait- 305,000 people did on Vimeo? Nevermind... (maybe they left $5 on the bar off camera).
Speaking of Vimeo, wasn't Vimeo embedded in the blog yeasterday, but today it's Youtube?

Just saw a piece about this on the local news, and they showed the "film" in it's entirety. According to DFW security, they say they were well aware of what these guys were doing, they were indeed patrolling the area, and since the guys were causing no harm to themselves or anyone else, they didn't interrupt, and no charges will be filed.

Jeez. Just featured on the NBC nightly news. I thought it was interesting, but didn't think it'd get THIS much exposure...

I can see why it's viral, but NBC News? Probably because of "security' issues.

In one of the links they say they saw plenty of security. Plus, they were already past TSA screeners, so security wasn't worried.

As to the bar, one of the guys said they found it taking a weird set of stairs. He cleaned the glass he used for the beer, and said he'd have paid if he knew how. Said next time at the airport he'll leave a $20 tip. ...provided they don't end up on the No Fly List.

:Drogar-Evil(DBG):

Would anyone hire these guys after this video? I find stealing the beer (they didn't leave any money and so far have only said that "next time" they'll go in and leave a larger tip...will it happen?) and pounding away on a keyboard that isn't theirs (and if you notice, when the other one is walking on his hands, his foot kicks the flat panel display at the AA counter) to be quite indicative of their attitude towards other people's property. Would they find it amusing if someone found their way into their own place while they were out of town shooting and stole a beer/played on their equipment?

I work for an airline. This kind of behavior should not be tolerated for several reasons, in my opinion:

  • The portion of the station (airport) beyond security is federal property. Misconduct that would usually be considered a misdemeanor is immediately upgraded to a felony because it is secured, federal ground. Restaurants and retailers do not own any space inside of an airport; the space is leased to them, but stealing - as the guy did when he poured himself a glass from tap - is liable for suit by the restaurant chain and the government.
  • Because these guys faced no charges or not even so much as a small fine or a temporary ban from the airport or from passage on the airline from whom they bought a ticket, and because this is broadcast news, it opens a gateway for more stupid stunts during the lull hours of air travel. This encourages more envelope-pushing behavior.

I know retail employees who were fired, charged, and fined for stupid behavior at an airport. One guy stole a bottle of water - a $2 bottle of water - from a convenience store inside an airport just because he wanted to see if he could. The security cameras caught it and he was sacked, charged with a felony, and I don't remember what his sentence was (something like community service).

The fact that customers did not receive any punishment whatsoever for vandalism on federal grounds is a little unsettling. It may be minor and in may be in good spirits, but it's still illegal and it still opens a gateway for others, now that it is immortalized on the internet.
