Stronger Light Stands for Arri Tungsten???

I have an Arri tungsten light kit and need stronger stands. These stands have fell over one too many times and I need to replace them with something better. It can be used or older but need to protect my lights as they have fallen a couple of times when working on set in tight spaces.

Thanks

No idea which stands you are using now, but Beefy Baby stands are, well, beefy.

The other solution would be to bag your current stand base with a sandbag.

The beefys won't tip. These are by far my favorite stands - light and stable. One thing, what makes them stable is that the footprint is 33.5"

Stands tipping over isn't about the strength of the stand. The only times I've seen this happen, they were strong stands but it was because the stand was not sufficiently weighted with sandbags.

The Arri light stands that come in the simple tungsten kit (650,300,150). I had a sandbag on the inner part covering one leg and the other, a gust of wind knocked the entire stand down. So I need new stands or really heavier sandbags, thanks.

I have just picked up three of these stands and plan on getting some more. I really like them and they should handle the Arri lights with no problems. The are the best stands at the lowest cost I have found.

As for sandbags, I went this route:

I use at least two sandbags per stand usually and three when setting up outside or going very high with the stand.

Unless your stands are actually bending or breaking, then stronger stands won't help your problem. More or better sandbag technique is the solution to stands falling in the wind.

Great post!, thanks a lot, those stands for price look nice. Also I have no idea why I just never though of putting 3 sand bags on a stand.......
Thanks a lot

Those stands were recommended on a DVUSER post a while back (I am pretty sure the post was from David W. Jones... Thanks David!)... We're all in this together!

I was on a project last summer where we were shooting in a church with a lot of kids and I made sure that every stand had three sandbags on them for safety. It can be a pain toting around enough sandbags, but I like the peace of mind of knowing the stands are not a hazard.

Lets face it, more times than not, we have to shoot at locations where the room size is less than ideal. That is where these smaller footprint stands come in very handy. A roll of gaffer's tape is also handy to have on hand. You never know when something stupid is going to happen tearing a small hole in a sandbag, causing a liability on set. Gaff that hole and get back to work.
