Striping tapes with FCP 4 for 24PA mode

So I have a Sony deck and I wanted to use Final Cut Pro 4's Edit to Tape - Black and Code function to stripe my tapes before shooting but I'm not sure which settings to use. I'm stuck between DV NTSC 48khz - 23.98 or DV NTSC 48khz - 24...any suggestions? I want to ultimately remove the pulldown and edit in native 24P but I'm just worried about striping my tapes as of now.

Re: Striping tapes with FCP 4 for 24PA mode

You want the 24 setting, and in pref you can choose the 3:2:2:3 pulldown for the advanced mode, or 2:3 pulldown for 24p not advanced.

Re: Striping tapes with FCP 4 for 24PA mode

So I just got a reply on 2-pop for the same forum stating that any and all pulldowns are performed outside of the dvx, and offline from the dv ntsc tape so I just want to lay down standard NTSC 29.97...not sure what's correct

Re: Striping tapes with FCP 4 for 24PA mode

im sure this discussion would be better suited in a differnt topic thread, but at this time i will refer you to page 58 of your dvx100 users manual which helps expalin how every mode the dvx shoots in is converted and recorded as ntsc standard dv.. it can also be found here:

ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/pub/Panasonic/Drivers/PBTS/manuals/OM_AG-DVX100.pdf

the users manual is a valuable rescource, and has answers to many common questions like this and usually ships with the dvx100. i would suggest printing a copy off the website if you did not recieve one. good luck with the project! :)
