Strike

Truth is, I've been going without more than a two- or three-day break, for 2-1/2 years now.

If there's nothing going when I wrap the present show, I'm off to Hawaii.

I finally got to LA and am gearing to sell my first script, uh, well, not anytime soon, from the look of things. This strike is going to hurt a lot of people. Sigh.

It's true that this is not good for writers near the beginnings of their careers.

Hopefully you'll find some decent non-union opportunities, until strike's end.

I'm actually getting ready to sign a contract to sell my reality show, and they've asked for more, so I guess my deal just got a little better :)

Gonna be an interesting next year...

Been a long time coming though. The Writers are only the first wave in what
is going to be a very painful process of negotation for all the crafts and creative
unions. Its time to fight the good fight :)

Will this lead to more opportunities for independant filmmakers in the coming years?

If it were to continue and there were less new hollywood blockbusters...would they lean on the independant market more heavily?

The writers are getting screwed by the current (or previous, I suppose) contract. I hope this ends well for them.

I think one of the next big things that will happen within the next decade is VFX Supervisors will start a guild.

They've been talking about it, for a decade. Let's hope it doesn't take that long...

Tell me about it. :crybaby:

I spent 7 years doing vfx under a local 600 contract... had both kids under
union benefits, got fantastic overtime compensation and the overall lifestyle
was unbeatable.

I'm hoping it'll happen, but its going to take a pretty strong personality to
climb up on their workstation and be our "Norma Rae" and get some accurate
info out there.

The problem is the unlimited supply of 15-year olds who are already Maya/Lightwave/Max/whatever masters, and would be delighted to work for minimum wage, just for the fun of it.

my only prayer is that the "comedy" writers of "last call with carson daly" are included in this strike.

Add to that, living in other, cheaper countries...

We just hurriedly finished and registered a dozen scripts for our TV show we're pitching, in sight of this strike happening.
